Sapphire from Thurein Taung mine, Mogok, Myanmar

We got the chance to examined the over 80 carets sapphire from Thurein Taung mine, Mogok, Myanmar where is 22° 54′ 11” North, 96° 22′ 19” East near KYAUK PYAT THAT Area. It is high saturated blue (Royal blue type) and cushion shape mixed style cutting. It shows weak orangy red fluorescence under long wave UV. There is distinct absorption line at 450nm in visible spectrum.

It has dash and dotted rutiles which are zoning with colour band at an angle of hexagon. The mica flakes, platelet of rutile and tiny crystals are commonly seen. The high definitions of liquid feather pattern with interconnecting cannels are remarkable as natural origin. All kind of inclusions in this sapphire pointed to be as natural classic Myanmar sapphire.
